Video metadata.
What stays. What clears.

A practical guide to MP4, MOV and M4V metadata, supported clearing, preserved playback data and before-and-after checks.

Video metadata describes more than the picture

A video file contains encoded media plus structures that describe how to play it. Depending on its container and the software that made it, it can also carry descriptive information such as editing notes, timestamps or provenance records.

Descriptive fields and playback data

Descriptive metadata can be separate from technical information required for playback. Track type, timing, dimensions, rotation, sample layout and media offsets help a player decode the file correctly. Removing every structure would break playback.

How MP4, MOV and M4V are organized

These containers store information in nested boxes, also called atoms. The cleaner reads supported structures from local file slices. It clears recognized descriptive containers and supported fields while leaving encoded media and valid offsets in place.

What video metadata cleaning addresses

Our video AI label remover clears recognized descriptive metadata, known XMP/provenance blocks, supported creation/modification timestamps and track descriptions. It does not inspect every possible private format or metadata inside encoded audio/video streams. Unknown fields and additional tracks can remain.

Will cleaning change video quality?

This cleaner does not re-encode sound or picture. It preserves encoded media bytes and playback structure. The file size remains the same because cleared areas are replaced with empty space. It is not a converter or compressor.

Inspect before and after

  1. Use the metadata inspector to scan an original MP4, MOV or M4V.
  2. Clean a copy in the video metadata cleaner or mixed image/video cleaner.
  3. Select “Check video metadata” on the result to scan the cleaned file automatically.
  4. Review the scope messages, play the download in a compatible player and retain the original.

Metadata is not proof of AI use

A recognized block is a structural finding rather than verification of all its values. A file with no supported metadata is not proof that it was made without AI. Platform labels, visible marks and invisible content signals are separate from this scan.

Files and practical limits

Use MP4, MOV or M4V up to 500 MB each, with up to 20 files and 1 GB total per batch. ZIP downloads are limited to 200 MB. Unsupported or protected containers are rejected, and preview depends on browser codec support. Processing stays on your device.

Keep important information

Preserve rights, attribution and provenance records you need. Edit files you have permission to use and follow the rules where you publish them.
